Whirlwind weekend: Makati Shangri-La

After a week of fun and stress and excitement, I had the unexpected opportunity to relax with an overnight stay in Makati Shangri-La with my lovely mother, sister and tita. Since I’m not too overly invested to write about everything that happened, here are some pictures instead (with captions attached).

*Most of the pictures were taken by my amazing sister, Gianna.

CHECKED IN. It was our first time staying in Makati Shangri-la, and the room's pretty cool.

COMPLEMENTS. As expected, I grabbed the yellow macaroon. Yum.

WALKING AROUND. After settling in, we had lunch in Mang Yann (somewhere very near, as we were hungry) and looked at the different facilities. Then we --my mother and tita, that is-- had the idea of playing tennis.

AFTER TENNIS. I'm a decent amateur (intermediate) player, but I tire very easily compared to my mother and sister. We reserved the court for two hours -- Php400 for 5-6 pm, and Php650 for 6-7pm --and I played for probably 90 minutes cumulative.

PICTORIAL TENNIS. For the last fifteen minutes of our court time, my sister and I ended up taking 20+ "artistic" pictures of ourselves. That's me, my racket Red, and my inappropriate running shoes.

SWIMMING. The Shangri-La pool isn't that big or impressive, actually, and the area is also a bit unexciting, but I suppose we still had fun. The sudden dip in depth of the pool scared the hell out of my family, haha. I swam for like fifteen minutes only, because I was busy. Ha.

HOT TREATMENT. Apparently my sauna experience with friends isn't the real deal. My sister and I stepped into the Japanese sauna room and fled out because we couldn't breath. My mother and tita stayed there, though. I have no idea how they did it. This is me an hour, blow dry and jacuzzi stay later.

DINNER AT CUCINA ANDARE. It's a new place for me. Similar to Mercato Centrale, the place offers many unique styles and tastes. My sister and I eventually settled for the semi-familiar.

PESTO PASTA. Or something like that. A single serving costs Php100.

ON DISPLAY. The bestseller, Empire Steak, was the one we ate. Also for Php100.

We had drinks and dessert from Family Mart, which was awesome and new for me.

HOW TO EAT ISAW. I don't actually know. This is the second one I've eaten in my life entire life. Just kidding I didn't even finish this one.

CIRCLES. It's a pretty famous place. Haha my brother didn't get to eat there because he was camping in Zambales. :D I think the breakfast costs Php1500+ per person? The food was pretty terrific.

BUFFET BREAKFAST. There were lots of cuisines to choose from, and there were exciting new dishes. Unfortunately I am always a bit short of appetite for buffets, and I only ate a plate and a bowl of fruits. Everything was also very orange. Like, in the whole hotel. It was just more pronounced in Circles.

CHECKING OUT. Time to pose in pictures like a tourist. That Saturday night, we also had the third floor patio opened just for us --it was already very much closed past 11 pm-- because my mother wanted a smoke. Just saying.

SHOPPING. After leaving the hotel, we spent some hours going around Glorietta 2. I've got new shoes and a new top, yay! Funny anecdote: I wasn't supposed to buy these white flat sandals from Payless, but I eventually did. Why? Because apparently my feet were literally bleeding from the Mel plastic flats I was wearing. I didn't even notice, but my mother did. So yay, new shoes.

That’s basically it. Hello, thanks for scrolling through.

*Back to yearbook shenanigans, two exams and identifying the most irritating unknown compounds in the world (just kidding I love them).

  1. You could have credited me for the pictures, you know. HAHA. :)))

    1. Why must this always be your comment? :( I should just make the credit my tagline: “WOOSH | Pictures taken by Gianna Monteagudo”

Nah just kidding I’ll edit after I study.

  2. chatmonty says:

Mann Hann! instead of Mang Yann!

    1. Oops I will also edit that later.
